Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The Deco BE85 is for large homes with a connection faster than 2.5 Gbit/s and for buyers who want fibre-ready ports. TP-Link's German product page lists link rates of 11530 Mbps on 6 GHz, 5765 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 320 MHz channels, twelve streams and MLO. Each unit has one 10 Gbit/s RJ45/SFP+ combo port, one 10 Gbit/s RJ45 port, two 2.5 Gbit/s ports and USB 3.0. The page also carries the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 mark, which no other product page in this ranking states.

PC-WELT, in an overview updated on 15 May 2026, named it the best mesh system and reported more than 7 Gbit/s between the nodes over 6 GHz and more than 8 Gbit/s with a LAN backhaul. Dong Knows Tech gave 8 out of 10, measured about 5 Gbps of sustained wireless backhaul on the North American version, and noted an internal fan, warm running and a mandatory app login.

Missing: RAM, power consumption and an update period. HomeShield's basic plan is free; the Pro plan is a paid subscription.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification9.2

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback7.3

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value5.8

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the EU Deco BE85 the same as the one in American reviews?

Not exactly. TP-Link's German page describes a BE19000 system, while Dong Knows Tech reviewed a version labelled BE22000. The port layout described is the same, but measured wireless results from the American version should not be assumed to carry over one to one.

What does the SFP+ combo port do?

One of the two 10 Gbit/s ports can be used either with an RJ45 copper cable or with an SFP+ module, for example for a fibre link. It is a combo port, so only one of the two connectors works at a time.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
