Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The ZenWiFi BD4 is for homes that have Ethernet between rooms and a connection of around a gigabit. It is Wi-Fi 7 in name, but without 6 GHz: ASUS lists up to 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with channels up to 160 MHz. Each unit has two auto-detecting 2.5 Gbit/s ports, a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 512 MB of RAM and 128 MB of flash.

Dong Knows Tech rated it 8 out of 10, with 8.5 for value, calling it the bare minimum in Wi-Fi 7 capability but an excellent buy for a wired home with modest bandwidth needs; it delivered gigabit-plus speeds with a wired backhaul. PC-WELT lists it as its mesh system with an affordable price, fast enough for a gigabit line at close range, and notes a challenging installation.

What is missing: MLO is not mentioned in the specification list, there is no coverage or power figure, and no update period. With only two ports per unit, a wired backhaul leaves one free port on the satellite and none on the main unit.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification6.8

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies7.8

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback7.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value8.6

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the BD4 real Wi-Fi 7 without 6 GHz?

It uses the 802.11be standard on 2.4 and 5 GHz, so features such as 4K-QAM can apply, but the widest channel is 160 MHz and there is no 6 GHz band. Dong Knows Tech calls it the bare minimum in Wi-Fi 7 capability.

Who should choose the BD4 over the Deco BE25?

The two are very close on paper: the same 2882 + 688 Mbps link rates and two 2.5 Gbit/s ports each. ASUS publishes the processor and memory and lists AiProtection Pro without a subscription; TP-Link's product page mentions MLO but keeps some HomeShield features for paying subscribers.
