What matters here

What we look at in Automotive

Car parts are the rare category where a mandatory label already carries the most important information. The EU tyre label states the wet grip class, the rolling resistance class and the external noise level, and those three letters decide safety, fuel use and comfort more reliably than any brand reputation.

We start from the label, then check it against published industry testing for the specific size — because classes are bands, and two tyres in class A can differ by a couple of metres of braking distance at 80 km/h. That gap is the length of a car, and it is invisible on the sticker. Rolling resistance we translate into fuel over an assumed annual mileage, which usually reorders a ranking built on shelf price alone.

For batteries the decisive figures are cold cranking amps and capacity matched to the actual engine, plus the technology — a car with a start-stop system needs AGM or EFB and will destroy a conventional battery within a couple of winters. For oils it is the manufacturer's own approval rather than the viscosity grade: an oil that meets the viscosity but lacks the approval can void a warranty.

Everything is scored per kilometre or per year of service, never per unit — that is the only way a cheap tyre and an expensive one become comparable.

● 03 — How we score

A ranking is not
a bestseller list.
It is built from data.

/ 01

BestProductRanking combines an analysis of composition and specification, available third-party studies and verified owner feedback — to show what actually works rather than what has the largest advertising budget.

  • 01We analyse

Every category has its own protocol and a defined key parameter — not an editor's impression.

  • 02We verify

Every manufacturer claim is checked against an independent source: a study, a certificate or a public register. Anything unconfirmed is labelled as a declaration.

  • 03We publish

The underlying data and the scoring formula are public for every ranking.

04 / Methodology

Four sources.
One protocol per category.

The 0–10 score comes from the same four components, whether the subject is a television, a tyre or a face cream. Each carries equal weight, and the sources are listed with every ranking.

  1. 01Composition and specification

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. 02Evidence and studies

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. 03Owner feedback

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. 04Cost and value

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

How we score

Principles

Four sources.
No guesswork.

Every score rests on manufacturer documentation, available studies and certificates, verified owner feedback from extended use, and the relationship between price and what the product delivers. We do not sell positions in a ranking and no brand sees its score before publication.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
