What matters here

What we look at in Baby & kids

This is the one category where a standard, not a preference, sets the floor. Anything that fails the applicable European safety standard does not enter a ranking, whatever else it offers. For pushchairs that is EN 1888, for car seats the R129 regulation, and we check which version a product is approved against, not merely that a number appears somewhere in the description.

Above that floor, the decisive figures are physical and unglamorous. The weight of the pushchair as it is actually carried up the stairs, with the seat unit attached, rather than the frame alone quoted in the brochure. Folded dimensions against the boot of a normal car. The width, because a pram that does not pass a shop doorway is a problem every day. For car seats: the height and weight range that genuinely fits, the installation method, and how long a child stays in the seat before it has to be replaced.

We also weigh what happens on the second child. Whether spare parts and covers are available, whether the harness can be washed, whether the model is still supported three years on. In this category the difference between products is rarely about comfort claims — it is about how much of the design survives everyday use.

● 03 — How we score

A ranking is not
a bestseller list.
It is built from data.

/ 01

BestProductRanking combines an analysis of composition and specification, available third-party studies and verified owner feedback — to show what actually works rather than what has the largest advertising budget.

  • 01We analyse

Every category has its own protocol and a defined key parameter — not an editor's impression.

  • 02We verify

Every manufacturer claim is checked against an independent source: a study, a certificate or a public register. Anything unconfirmed is labelled as a declaration.

  • 03We publish

The underlying data and the scoring formula are public for every ranking.

04 / Methodology

Four sources.
One protocol per category.

The 0–10 score comes from the same four components, whether the subject is a television, a tyre or a face cream. Each carries equal weight, and the sources are listed with every ranking.

  1. 01Composition and specification

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. 02Evidence and studies

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. 03Owner feedback

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. 04Cost and value

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

How we score

Principles

Four sources.
No guesswork.

Every score rests on manufacturer documentation, available studies and certificates, verified owner feedback from extended use, and the relationship between price and what the product delivers. We do not sell positions in a ranking and no brand sees its score before publication.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
