What matters here

What we look at in Home appliances

A large appliance is bought once and paid for over a decade. That is why the purchase price is the weakest predictor of a good decision here, and why we always set it against energy, water and consumables across the lifespan typical for the class.

The European energy label was rescaled in 2021, so a machine sold today as class C can be more efficient than one that carried an A+++ sticker a few years ago. We read the label as a set rather than a single letter: the energy and water figures per cycle, the spin-drying class, the noise level in decibels and the noise class. For dishwashers and washing machines we also check what the eco programme actually costs in time — the class is measured on a cycle that frequently runs three to four hours, and a household that never uses it will not see the declared consumption.

Then come the things labels do not cover: whether the drum bearings are replaceable, how long the manufacturer guarantees spare parts, what a service call costs in the second and fifth year. An appliance that cannot be repaired economically is not a bargain at any price, and it is the single most common reason a cheaper model ends up costing more.

● 03 — How we score

A ranking is not
a bestseller list.
It is built from data.

/ 01

BestProductRanking combines an analysis of composition and specification, available third-party studies and verified owner feedback — to show what actually works rather than what has the largest advertising budget.

  • 01We analyse

Every category has its own protocol and a defined key parameter — not an editor's impression.

  • 02We verify

Every manufacturer claim is checked against an independent source: a study, a certificate or a public register. Anything unconfirmed is labelled as a declaration.

  • 03We publish

The underlying data and the scoring formula are public for every ranking.

04 / Methodology

Four sources.
One protocol per category.

The 0–10 score comes from the same four components, whether the subject is a television, a tyre or a face cream. Each carries equal weight, and the sources are listed with every ranking.

  1. 01Composition and specification

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. 02Evidence and studies

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. 03Owner feedback

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. 04Cost and value

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

How we score

Principles

Four sources.
No guesswork.

Every score rests on manufacturer documentation, available studies and certificates, verified owner feedback from extended use, and the relationship between price and what the product delivers. We do not sell positions in a ranking and no brand sees its score before publication.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
