KEBA KeContact P40 (131.736)

The best-evidenced wallbox here: ADAC graded the P40 1.6 and named it test winner in December 2025, and KEBA builds both the Type A RCCB and the 6 mA DC detection into the box.

Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The KeContact P40 suits owners who want a well-documented, well-tested wallbox and are happy to pay for it. KEBA states that the P40 integrates an RCCB Type A together with an RDC-DD, i.e. 6 mA DC fault-current detection, so the residual-current protection is built in rather than left to the installer's parts list. Phase switching between one and three phases is integrated for PV-surplus charging, and the unit speaks OCPP 1.6, Modbus, a REST API, LAN, WLAN, Bluetooth and RS485.

The evidence is the strongest in this ranking. In ADAC's company-car wallbox test of 11 December 2025 the KEBA KeContact P40 scored 1.6 and won; note that ADAC tested a company-car configuration, while the 131.736 listed here is the version with an uncalibrated meter. ISO 15118 is only an option on the standard P40, and the MID meter is too: The Mobility House lists MID variants of the P40 at €1,010–1,059 instead of €959.

What is missing: KEBA's overview page gives no standby figure, no IK rating and no temperature range in numbers, and at 476 mm tall and about 6.2 kg it is the largest box here. If you need to bill home charging to an employer, budget for the MID variant from the start.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification8.5

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies9.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback6.5

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value6.5

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the KEBA P40 need a Type B RCD in front of it?

KEBA states that an RCCB Type A and 6 mA DC detection (RDC-DD) are integrated. The final protection concept is set by your electrician under local wiring rules.

Can I bill my employer for home charging with the 131.736?

Not reliably: its meter is listed as uncalibrated. The Mobility House sells MID-metered P40 variants at €1,010–1,059.
