Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The Charger Connect 2 suits VW Group drivers and anyone who wants Plug and Charge and PV-surplus charging at a mid-range price. Elli's installation manual for Charger 2 states 6 mA DC residual-current detection according to IEC 62955 and requires an external RCD of at least Type A. It also lists an EEBUS interface for grid-operator control and a MID 2014/32/EU-compliant meter – but only for the Pro 2; the Connect 2 has an integrated meter that is not MID-certified, and The Mobility House lists it as uncalibrated.

Elli lists the Connect 11 from €759 including shipping, with Wi-Fi and Ethernet and a 4.5 m or 7.5 m cable. The VW-branded version at The Mobility House (€779, 7.5 m) is listed with Plug and Charge (ISO 15118), PV-surplus charging, dynamic phase switching, IP55, 372 × 260 × 116 mm and 4.9 kg, with a two-year warranty extendable to five for €119.95. Elli also publishes a §14a declaration.

What is missing: no standby, IK or temperature figures on the pages we opened, and the OCPP version is not given on the product page. ADAC graded the earlier VW ID. Charger 2.2 in November 2023; the second generation has not been tested by ADAC as far as we could see.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.5

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies6.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback6.5

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.0

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.
