What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The most transparent entry in this ranking, and the one to buy if durability is your priority.

Ravensberger publishes its complete Stiftung Warentest sub-score table, which almost no manufacturer does. From the Matratzen 03/2025 programme, tested as 90×200 H4:

CriterionGradeWeight
Liegeeigenschaften2.235%
Liegekomfort2.210%
Haltbarkeit2.025%
Bezug1.410%
Gesundheit und Umwelt1.610%
Handhabung3.05%
Deklaration3.05%

Overall 2.2 "gut", one of the test winners among 14 mattresses up to €630, with the note that it achieved good lying properties for all tested body types in the back-sleeping position. Not both positions — that was the f.a.n. — but all body types in one.

The foam density is the headline specification: RG 50 kg/m³. That is the highest of any foam mattress here and comfortably above the recommended 40 kg/m³ minimum aligned with DIN 13014. Indicative service life at 50–60 kg/m³ is around ten years, against five to six at 35.

It has seven zones, about 18 cm total height with a 16 cm core, and comes in H2 (up to ~80 kg), H3 (from ~80 kg) and H4 (from ~110 kg) — the widest firmness range here, though remember these grades are not standardised. The RAVOTEX cover is 50% cotton and 50% polyester, washable at up to 60 °C.

Two soft spots visible in the sub-scores. Handhabung and Deklaration both scored 3.0 — handling and how well the product is declared. The first probably reflects weight and the difficulty of turning it; the second is a labelling matter rather than a performance one.

The trial period is 30 nights — the shortest here — with a 10-year guarantee.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification9.0

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies9.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.6

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value8.6

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much difference does RG 50 make?

It is the difference between a mattress that lasts and one that softens. Indicative service life by density runs roughly: 30 kg/m³ two to three years, 35 kg/m³ five to six, 40 kg/m³ six to eight, 50-60 kg/m³ about ten. The recommended minimum is 40, aligned with DIN 13014, the hospital-mattress standard. At RG 50 this is the most durable foam mattress here — and note that its Stiftung Warentest durability sub-score of 2.0 is good but not exceptional, which is a useful reminder that density is a proxy rather than the whole story.

Which firmness should I choose?

Ravensberger's guidance is H2 up to about 80 kg, H3 from 80 and H4 from 110 — but remember Stiftung Warentest states that manufacturers' firmness grades often do not match, and there is no European standard defining them. Its measured test was on the H4. Firmness also does not determine lying quality: Stiftung Warentest says plainly that a soft mattress can support the spine just as well as a hard one. Use the 30-night trial.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
