What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The single most useful finding in this entire research, and it has nothing to do with the overall grade.

In Stiftung Warentest's March 2025 round, this was the only model with good lying properties for all seven body types in both back and side sleeping. It was a joint test winner at grade 2.2 "gut", at around €290.

To understand why that matters, understand what Stiftung Warentest changed in 2025. It expanded from four body types to seven — Ball, Säule, Sanduhr, Tropfen, Trapez, Schrank and Haus, covering roughly two-thirds of the German population — and tests back and side sleeping separately for each. Its own conclusion is that finding a mattress on which all body types lie well is a challenge. Fourteen mattresses under €630 were assessed in that round. One managed it.

If you share a bed with someone of a different build, this is more valuable than a better overall grade. The Ravensberger, also at 2.2, managed all body types in back sleeping only.

The construction is an Ortho-cel cold-foam core with seven zones, about 19 cm tall, made in Germany, available in H2 and H3. Retailer guidance suggests H2 below roughly 60 kg and H3 for most users — remembering that these grades are not standardised between manufacturers.

The double-jersey cover is removable in halves and washes at up to 95 °C, the highest temperature in this ranking. For anyone with dust-mite allergy, that is a genuine specification rather than a marketing line.

The gap is the density. f.a.n. does not publish the Raumgewicht of the Ortho-cel core anywhere we could find, and we will not substitute the RG 37 figure listed for the Medisan Max KS, which is a different product. That opacity is a real mark against it in a category where density determines how long the mattress lasts.

Trial period and warranty vary by retailer and are not published on the pages we checked.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.4

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies9.6

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.8

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value8.6

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does the body-type finding matter more than the grade?

Because a mattress is shared. Stiftung Warentest weights lying properties at 35% of the overall grade and assesses them across seven body types in two sleeping positions — fourteen combinations. A mattress can score well overall by being excellent for some builds and adequate for others. If you and your partner have different body shapes, or you sleep on your side and they on their back, a model that works across all fourteen combinations is worth more than two-tenths of a grade.

Should I worry that the foam density isn't published?

It is a genuine mark against it. Raumgewicht is the durability metric — below 40 kg/m³ a foam core softens within a few years, below 30 it is disposable. A manufacturer that does not publish it is asking you to take durability on trust. Note that Stiftung Warentest weights Haltbarkeit at 25% of the overall grade and this mattress scored 2.2 overall, so the durability assessment cannot have been poor. But the number itself is missing.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
