Review
What this product is
Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.
A well-graded budget foam mattress with an unusual virtue for its price: IKEA publishes the densities.
Stiftung Warentest graded it 2.4 "gut" in the Matratzen 03/2025 programme, with durability rated "very good". That places it behind the f.a.n. and Ravensberger at 2.2, and ahead of the €566 Emma Original Pro at 2.7.
The published densities are the reason to take it seriously at €179: a polyurethane soft-foam layer at 38 kg/m³, a memory-foam layer at 50 kg/m³, and a polyurethane base at 35 kg/m³. The base layer does most of the structural work, and 35 is a respectable figure for the money — considerably better than the Emma One's 30 kg/m³ base and far better than the IKEA Vesteröy's 25–28.
It is 20 cm tall with five zones, and the cover is removable, machine washable at 40 °C and made from 100% recycled polyester. There is a 365-night trial and a 10-year guarantee.
One specific criticism from Stiftung Warentest is worth repeating, because it is a good example of a Deklaration failing: the firmness is stated on IKEA's website but not labelled on the product itself. It is sold as "mittelfest" (medium-firm) only, with no other option.
The comparison that makes the case: at €179 with a 2.4 grade, five zones and published densities, it outscored a bed-in-a-box mattress costing more than three times as much — which had seven zones and published no densities at all.
Note the zone count relationship across this ranking: the five-zone Åvaberg scored 2.4, the seven-zone Emma Original Pro scored 2.7. Zone counts do not predict grades.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is five zones worse than seven?
There is no evidence it matters at all. Stiftung Warentest's former chairman said of seven-zone mattresses: "Die 7-Zonen-Matratze, mit der viele Anbieter werben, bringt aber überhaupt nichts" — the seven-zone mattress many providers advertise does nothing at all. In this ranking zone counts run from five to seven with no relationship to grade: the five-zone Åvaberg scored 2.4 and the seven-zone Emma Original Pro scored 2.7.
What does IKEA's cheaper Vesteröy give up?
Two things that matter. Its foam is only 25-28 kg/m³, well below the 40 kg/m³ recommended minimum and in the range where indicative service life is one to three years. And its cover is not removable or washable at all — both confirmed by IKEA's own specification and by test.de. At €139 against €179, the Åvaberg's extra €40 buys a durable base layer and a washable cover.
