What this product is
Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.
The default answer for a new runner, for reasons that mostly are not about the shoe.
Brooks EMEA's Run Happy Promise accepts worn items back within 90 days, with free returns and a full refund, on purchases made directly through the Brooks website. That is the strongest return policy we verified anywhere in European running retail, and it matters more than any lab measurement: the EU's statutory 14-day right of withdrawal lets you try shoes on indoors, not test them on a run. Brooks lets you actually run.
The lab data is solid rather than spectacular. RunRepeat measured 289 g — exactly matching Brooks's own claim, which no other shoe here managed. Measured stack 37.3 / 25.1 mm giving a 12.2 mm drop against a claimed 10 mm. DNA Loft v3 is a nitrogen-injected EVA midsole measuring 40.5 AC — the firmest here against a lab average of 35.6. Firm but not harsh; this is what reviewers mean by "controlled".
The outsole is the standout number. 3.5 mm of rubber with near-full coverage, and 0.8 mm wear in the Dremel durability test — the most rubber of any shoe in this ranking, and excellent durability. For a beginner whose shoes wear unevenly while form settles, that is the specification that determines cost per kilometre.
Stability is officially neutral, but the heel counter stiffness is 5 out of 5 — exceptionally rigid — which functions as de facto rearfoot support without the motion-control label that the evidence does not support anyway.
Two real limitations. Breathability is only 70 out of 100, the second-worst here — noticeable if you run through a southern European summer. And the toebox is 70.6 mm, the narrowest of the eight. RunRepeat lists narrow, normal, wide and extra-wide fittings, but that reflects the US market: the German retailer we checked stocks only medium. Wide fits are far more available in America than in Europe.
RunRepeat scored it 86/100 "Great" — a reliable, everyday workhorse.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why does the return policy matter so much?
Because comfort is the one shoe property the evidence actually supports, and you cannot assess comfort standing in a shop. The EU's statutory 14-day right of withdrawal protects trying shoes on "under comparable conditions to those of a store" — a trader cannot charge you depreciation for that — but running 20 km outdoors goes beyond it, and the trader can reduce your refund. Brooks EMEA's 90-day worn-shoe policy on direct purchases is a voluntary policy well beyond the statutory minimum, and it is the single most useful feature for a first pair.
Is the firmest midsole a bad thing for a beginner?
Not necessarily, but the one relevant RCT leans the other way. Malisoux et al. gave 848 runners prototype shoes identical except for cushioning — soft at 61 N/mm stiffness, hard at 95 N/mm — and found the harder shoe carried a higher injury risk (HR 1.52), with the effect significant in lighter runners. Caveats apply: it is a single trial, Cochrane rated pooled soft-vs-hard evidence low certainty, and 40.5 AC is not the same measurement as 95 N/mm. But if you are light and unsure, a softer shoe is the better bet.
