Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

If the aim is as much clean air as possible for the money, this is the machine: Philips publishes 520 m³/h, and its Dutch store sells it for €249 against a list price of €319.99. That is about €0.48 per m³/h, the lowest of the mains-brand models here. At five air changes per hour it covers about 43 m², enough for a large living room, or for a bedroom at a low, quiet speed.

The advertised 135 m² is another matter. It corresponds to roughly 1.6 air changes per hour and should be ignored. Philips also states that a 20 m² room is cleaned in six minutes.

The data sheet is fuller than most: 15 dB(A) minimum and 47.5 dB(A) maximum, 36 W at most and under 2 W in standby, PM2.5 and allergen sensors, app control through Air+. The three-layer filter (pre-filter, NanoProtect HEPA, activated carbon) is said to capture 99.97 % at 0.003 µm; no EN 1822 class is given, and that particle size is not the hardest one. The FY3200 filter is rated for a year.

Independent evidence is limited to the ECARF allergy seal; we found no published comparative test of this model, and no owner rating was visible on the Philips pages we opened, so the owner score is a neutral placeholder.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification8.5

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies6.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback7.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value8.6

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can the Philips 3200 really clean 135 m²?

It can move that air about 1.6 times per hour, which is too slow for allergy or smoke relief. With five air changes per hour and a 2.4 m ceiling, 520 m³/h covers about 43 m².

What does the ECARF seal prove?

That the purifier met the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation's criteria for allergy-friendly products. It is a pass mark, not a comparative test, and it does not replace an independently measured CADR.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
