Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The best price-per-performance in the "gut" bracket, with two label figures that need weighing.

ADAC / ÖAMTC / TCS 2023 placed it fourth of sixteen in 225/45 R17 with 2.4 "gut", scoring 2.6 for safety and an excellent 1.8 for environment — the second-best environmental result in that field. Sub-grades were D dry, C wet and B snow. It also finished fourth of 31 at ADAC 2025, though in 225/40 R18, a different size.

At €111.64 against a €192 list price it is €32 below the Continental, which is the largest gap between a recommended tyre and the winner in this ranking.

The two weaknesses are visible on the label and in the sub-grades.

First, rolling resistance is class D — the only tyre here besides the Falken to score below C. Each class step is worth roughly 0.1 l/100 km, so D against the Nokian's B is about 0.2 l/100 km over the tyre's life. Over 30,000 winter kilometres that is roughly 60 litres of fuel, which erodes a good part of the €32 saving.

Second, the wet sub-grade of C was the weakest of the ADAC 2023 top four, and its dry grade of D was equal-worst. This is a tyre that earned its 2.4 on snow and on efficiency rather than on tarmac.

The label reads C for wet grip and 72 dB class B with EPREL registration 610454 — one of the five verified registration numbers here.

Buy it if your winter driving involves genuine snow and you want to spend less. If most of your winter kilometres are wet motorway, the wet sub-grade and the D rolling resistance both argue against it.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.0

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.4

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.2

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value9.2

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does class D rolling resistance actually cost me?

Each EU class step is worth roughly 0.1 l/100 km, and ADAC puts the full A-to-E spread at about 0.5 l/100 km or 7.5%. So D against the Nokian's B is roughly 0.2 l/100 km. Over 30,000 winter kilometres on four tyres that is around 60 litres of fuel — at European prices, most of the €32 you saved per tyre against the Continental. The saving is real but smaller than the price tag suggests.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
