Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

A strong choice for drivers who prioritise wet braking. In 205/55 R16 94V XL the label shown by reifen.com is C for rolling resistance, A for wet grip and 72 dB (class B), EPREL 1827138. Pirelli itself only states ranges for the whole line — wet grip "B – A class", noise "B – A class", rolling resistance "C – B class" — and no size-specific figures.

The independent evidence is good but comes from other sizes: ADAC rated it 2.5 in 225/45 R17 (2025) and 2.6 in 185/65 R15 (2026); in Auto Bild's 2026 qualifying round in 225/45 R17 it needed 43.3 m wet and 37.0 m dry, 80.2 m in total, second only to the Bridgestone. A 2026 auto motor und sport test in 195/55 R16 reportedly graded it "sehr gut", but we saw that only in a retailer summary. Pirelli also cites a 2024 TÜV SÜD mark (on 225/50 R17) and a DEKRA braking report (225/40 R18).

Be careful with retailer pages: reifen.com shows the ADAC 2024 205/55 R16 result (2.6) next to the SF3, but that test covered the previous SF2. No test of the SF3 in this exact size was found.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification8.5

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies7.8

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.3

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.5

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.
