What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The best-specified machine in this ranking, with one significant caveat about availability.

Miele publishes three runtime figures rather than one, which is exactly the right approach: 120 minutes with the PowerUnit alone on LOW, 60 minutes with the power brush on LOW, and 28 minutes on HIGH with the brush. That last figure is nearly triple the Bosch's and more than four times the LG's, and it is the number that describes cleaning carpet at full power.

The filtration is the only claim here backed by a named standard. The HEPA Lifetime Filter is rated at 99.999% per EN 1822-1:2019 — where Dyson quotes a particle specification without a class, and Philips says only "triple filter system". For an allergy sufferer, a claim tied to a testable standard is worth considerably more than a percentage.

It is also the quietest machine in this ranking by a clear margin: 77 dB(A), against 82 for the Bosch, 83 for the LG, 84 for the Rowenta and Philips, and 87 for the Samsung. That is a ten-decibel spread across the category, measurable under EN 60704 — and nobody advertises it.

The battery is an exchangeable 25.2 V, 2,500 mAh pack — roughly 63 Wh by our arithmetic — charging in 240 minutes. The bin holds 0.5 litres, the machine weighs 3.6 kg, and the tool set includes the MultiFloor XXL electrobrush with BrilliantLight, an XXL upholstery nozzle, a dusting brush, a crevice tool and a hardfloor care tool.

The caveat: Miele's own page marks this model "Nicht mehr erhältlich" — no longer available. Check whether an HX3 has replaced it before building a purchase around it. Stiftung Warentest ranked the HX2 Pro and the HX2 Sprinter highly in its 02/2024 round, though we could not verify the exact grades.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification9.0

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.2

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback9.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.2

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does EN 1822-1:2019 actually mean?

It is the European standard that defines HEPA and ULPA filter classes and how they are tested, including the most penetrating particle size. A filtration claim referenced to it can be checked; a bare percentage cannot. Note though that a filter class only matters in a sealed system — if unfiltered air leaks around the filter housing, the class is irrelevant. Look for a whole-machine sealing claim, not just a filter rating.

Should I buy a discontinued model?

Only at a real discount, and only after checking spare parts and battery availability. Miele has a strong service network and the machine itself is well specified, but a discontinued line eventually loses its battery supply — and that is the component that ends a cordless vacuum's life. Check whether a successor exists first.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
