Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

This seat is the reason the lead of this page says price predicts almost nothing.

At €149 — ADAC's stated market price at test time — it scored 2.4 overall, with safety 2.1, handling 2.8, ergonomics 2.3 and a clean 1.0 for harmful substances. Those are identical sub-scores to the €270 Joie i-Pivot 360. It is the same overall grade as the €828 BeSafe Beyond 360, and a full 0.8 better than the €540 Britax Römer Dualfix 5Z.

It covers 40 to 105 cm with 360° rotation, rearward and forward facing, and permits rear-facing all the way to 105 cm — so you can follow the extended rear-facing advice without buying a second seat. Installation is ISOFIX with a support leg.

Two limitations to be clear about. Handling scored 2.8, which is the joint weakest of the recommended seats here — installation and daily use take more care than on better-scoring seats, and given that misuse is the dominant real-world risk, that is not a trivial mark. And there is no belt installation option: ISOFIX and support leg only, so no taxis and no cars without ISOFIX anchor points.

ADAC also notes it cannot double as an infant carry-cot despite the 40 cm lower approval. It is a seat that stays in the car; you cannot lift a sleeping newborn out in it. For the first year, many parents will still want a separate carrier alongside — which changes the value calculation.

The seat weighs 11.3 kg.

The message to take from this seat is not "buy Graco". It is that a child seat costing under €200 can be as safe as one costing €800, and you should choose on the test result rather than the price.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.6

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value9.8

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a €149 seat really be as safe as an €828 one?

On this test data, yes. This seat scored 2.4 overall with a safety sub-score of 2.1; the €828 BeSafe Beyond 360 scored 2.4 overall. The €540 Britax Römer Dualfix 5Z scored 3.2 with a safety sub-score of 3.5. Price in this category buys materials, finish, rotation smoothness, weight and brand — it does not reliably buy crash performance. Buy on the most recent ADAC grade.

What does a handling score of 2.8 mean in practice?

ADAC's Bedienung score includes misuse risk — how easy the seat is to install and use incorrectly. At 2.8 this seat takes more care than better-scoring alternatives. Given that a German insurers' study found almost 50% of small children were not correctly restrained, this is a genuine consideration. Have it fitted by a trained retailer the first time and learn the correct routine.
