Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

An infant carrier for 40 to 83 cm, up to 13 kg, and the strongest all-round result in the birth-to-fifteen-months category.

ADAC graded it 1.8, with safety 1.7, handling 1.9 and ergonomics 2.1. More usefully, ADAC explicitly noted low misuse potential — and that is worth understanding as a safety finding rather than a convenience one. A German insurers' association study found almost 50% of small children were not correctly restrained. A seat that is hard to install wrongly protects a child in the real world more reliably than a seat with a marginally better crash score that half of owners fit incorrectly.

The shell weighs 3.2 kg, which matters more than it sounds — an infant carrier is lifted in and out constantly, often with a sleeping baby in it. The base adds 6.5 kg but stays in the car. Installation works either with the FamilyFix S ISOFIX base and support leg, or with a three-point vehicle belt, which makes it usable in taxis and hire cars where the base is not available.

The newborn insert covers 40 to 60 cm, roughly the first three months — one of only two seats here whose insert range we could confirm. G-CELL side impact protection is fitted.

The one soft spot is harmful substances at 1.5. That is still a "good" result, but it is the weakest of the well-performing seats here — the Joie, Nuna, Graco and Cybex seats all scored a clean 1.0. ADAC applies harmful-substance results as a downgrade to the overall grade, so 1.5 is holding this seat back slightly from where its crash performance would otherwise place it.

Note that the carrier tested alone, belt-fitted without the base, scored 2.7 at around €180 — a materially worse result. The base is doing real work here.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification8.6

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies9.2

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback9.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value8.2

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the ISOFIX base worth the extra money?

On this evidence, yes. The same carrier belt-fitted without a base scored 2.7 against 1.8 with it. The base removes the two commonest belt-routing errors and gives audible and visual confirmation that the seat is locked in. Given that a German insurers' study found almost half of small children were incorrectly restrained, that matters more than a small difference in crash numbers.

How long will a 40-83 cm seat last?

Typically 12 to 15 months, depending on the child's growth. Infant carriers are outgrown by height first, not weight. The alternative is a 40-105 cm seat that covers birth to roughly four years in one purchase — but those seats are much heavier and cannot be carried out of the car with a sleeping baby, which is the main reason parents buy a carrier for the first year.

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
