FRITZ! FRITZ!Mesh Set 1700

Two plug-in FRITZ!Repeater 1700 units with Wi-Fi 7 on 2.4 and 5 GHz. The only product here with a stated five-year warranty and a published power figure, but with a single gigabit port per unit and no router functions of its own.

Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The FRITZ!Mesh Set 1700 is a different kind of product: two wall-plug repeaters meant to extend an existing network. The manufacturer says it works with a FRITZ!Box, another router or directly on a fibre modem (ONT), and describes it as suited to larger homes of three to five rooms. It makes most sense for households that already own a FRITZ!Box.

The published data: up to 2880 Mbit/s on 5 GHz and 688 Mbit/s on 2.4 GHz (2 × 2 each), one gigabit LAN port per repeater, WPA3/WPA2, an average power consumption of 6 W per repeater and dimensions of about 80 × 80 × 37 mm. FRITZ! states a five-year manufacturer's warranty and regular free updates, which is the most concrete long-term commitment in this ranking, although no update period in years is given.

What is missing: MLO and channel width are not stated, there is no 6 GHz band and no multi-gigabit port, so a wired backhaul is capped at 1 Gbit/s. We found no independent test. It is the only product for which we could open owner ratings: 4.8 out of 5 from 24 reviews on heise Preisvergleich.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification5.5

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies4.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.4

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.0

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can the FRITZ!Mesh Set 1700 replace my router?

FRITZ! says the set works with a FRITZ!Box, another router or directly on a fibre modem (ONT). It consists of two repeaters with one LAN port each, so it has none of the telephony, multi-port switch or modem functions of a FRITZ!Box. Most buyers will use it behind an existing router.

Why is it ranked last despite the good owner rating?

The overall score is the mean of four parts. Owner feedback and the warranty are strong, but the specification is the most limited here (dual-band, one gigabit port) and we found no independent test, which pulls the mean down.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
