What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

CeraVe's Invisible Hydrating Fluid replaces the older facial moisturising lotion with SPF in the brand's German range and suits people who want a moisturiser and sunscreen in one step. CeraVe lists six UV filters: ethylhexyl triazone, bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid, methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (nano and non-nano) and diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate. The extras are the brand's three ceramides and vitamin E, a 24-hour hydration claim and a non-comedogenic claim.

It is the only product in this ranking labelled SPF 50 rather than 50+, which puts it in the 'high' rather than the 'very high' category of the EU recommendation. CeraVe uses broad-spectrum wording but publishes no UVA-PF value, and the page does not state water resistance or pack size; the 50 ml figure comes from notino.de, where it costs 21.00 euros (42 euros per 100 ml). It contains DHHB, the filter Stiftung Warentest linked to possible DnHexP contamination in its face test, though this product was not in that test. Owner feedback is too thin to judge: a single 5-star review on notino.de when we checked.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.0

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies4.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback6.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value6.5

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is SPF 50 much worse than SPF 50+?

SPF 50 is the top of the EU 'high' category; 50+ is reserved for 'very high' protection. In daily use the bigger factor is how much you apply.

Does it contain DHHB?

Yes, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate is listed. Stiftung Warentest found possible DnHexP contamination in some DHHB products, but this fluid was not in that test.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
