Review
What this product is
Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.
The best-documented spec sheet in this ranking, and the only stroller whose cabin claim survives arithmetic.
Folded it measures 44.8 × 24.5 × 55.5 cm — all three dimensions inside 55 × 40 × 25. Every other stroller here that is marketed for the cabin breaks the template somewhere: the Joolz at 45 cm wide, the Stokke at 44 cm, the Silver Cross at 46.5, the Inglesina at 59 cm long. Bugaboo markets it as "IATA-compatible" and names no specific airlines, which is honest — there is no certifier to name.
Stiftung Warentest rated it "gut" in March 2024, one of only three of twelve models to manage it. It also took a Red Dot Best of the Best 2025 award for travel strollers — though design awards judge aesthetics and concept, not safety.
It handles from birth to 22 kg in a flat recline position, with a Bugaboo Babynest and car-seat adapters available. The fold is one-handed, marketed as one second, and it free-stands — the combination that matters when you have a child on one arm. Wheels are 14.1 cm front and 15.1 cm rear, the basket takes 8 kg, and the canopy is UPF 50+.
Two honest limitations. At 7.3 kg it is the second heaviest here — the price of a fold that actually works. And the seat measures 30 × 24 cm, the narrowest in this ranking and the only seat dimension any manufacturer publishes. That is the reason tall three-year-olds outgrow it before the 22 kg limit becomes relevant.
Bugaboo also states a 37% lower CO₂ footprint than the first Butterfly.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will an airline actually let me take it in the cabin?
It is the only stroller here whose dimensions make that plausible, but no manufacturer can promise it. There is no certifying body — IATA has no binding size standard, and the 55 × 40 × 20-23 cm figure is airline convention. In practice it depends on the aircraft, the load factor and the gate agent. Note also that even where allowed, a stroller in the cabin usually consumes your one carry-on allowance. Every European airline carries pushchairs free in the hold; treat the cabin as a bonus, never a plan.
Is the narrow seat a real problem?
It is the trade for the fold, and it is worth knowing before you buy. At 30 × 24 cm this is the narrowest seat here — and it is the only seat dimension any manufacturer in this ranking publishes, which is itself telling. The 22 kg weight limit is not what ends the stroller's life; a tall three-year-old outgrowing the seat width is. If your child is on the taller end, sit them in it before committing.
