Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The value leader by a wide margin, and it is backed by real infrastructure — Ubigi is operated by Transatel, part of NTT Docomo, rather than being a reseller storefront.

10 GB for 30 days costs $15, roughly €12.90 — about €1.29 per GB. Saily and aloSIM charge $35.99 and $36.00 for the identical allowance. That is not a small margin; it is roughly two and a half times.

The reuse story is the strongest here. One profile installs permanently and recharges across more than 200 destinations, and top-ups work in-app without needing Wi-Fi or existing data — which matters when you land somewhere with an empty plan. "Smartstart" means validity begins on arrival rather than at purchase, so you can install at home over Wi-Fi days before you fly. Data sharing is allowed with no stated cap.

The genuinely useful thing Ubigi does is split the catalogue. The standard EUROPE plan covers around 38 territories — including the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the Faroe Islands and Ukraine. EUROPE EXTENDED reaches 48 or more, adding Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Georgia and Azerbaijan, at $35 for 10 GB — roughly €30, or about €3 per GB.

Nobody else makes that distinction visible. Most providers publish one number and leave you to discover the gap in Istanbul.

Three caveats. Ubigi's own plan page says "28+" countries while the esimdb listing says 38 — a conflict we could not resolve. Its Trustpilot score is 4.1 from 45,328 reviews with 12% one-star, which is mid-pack. And its EUR display is odd: one page shows "$35 (€35 EUR available)", which at today's rate is a currency markup rather than a conversion, since €35 is about $40.71. Check the price in your own currency at checkout.

Some markets are 3G or 4G only rather than 5G. Russia data works only 24 hours after first connection, a Russian government restriction rather than a Ubigi one.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification9.2

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.2

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value9.8

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the cheap Europe plan cover Switzerland and the UK?

Yes — Ubigi's standard EUROPE coverage list includes Switzerland, Norway, the UK, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the Faroe Islands and Ukraine. That is genuinely useful, because Switzerland and the UK are the two countries most often missing from "Europe" plans and most expensive to be caught out in. Turkey is the exception here and requires the EXTENDED plan.

Why is it so much cheaper than Airalo or Saily?

Ubigi is operated by Transatel, part of NTT Docomo — it owns wholesale roaming infrastructure rather than reselling someone else's. Most travel eSIM brands are storefronts on top of roughly a dozen wholesale providers, and each layer adds margin. That structure also tends to mean better routing, though Ubigi does not publish per-country host networks so we cannot verify that directly.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
