Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The stroller that created this category, updated — and still carrying the compromises that made it famous.

The YOYO³ raises the basket from 5 kg to 10 kg, which is the largest here and a genuine practical upgrade. It adds improved shock absorbers on all four wheels, a backrest two inches higher than the YOYO², a fourth shoulder-strap position, and a larger UPF 50+ canopy with an air-mesh peekaboo window.

At 6.2 kg complete it sits among the lighter models. Note that Stokke also publishes a 5.1 kg frame-only figure — that is the number you will see quoted in places, and it is not the stroller you push.

Two limitations that have always defined the YOYO. It is approved from six months, with the 0+ newborn pack and bassinet sold separately. And the fold is two-handed by design — a strap pull — and it does not free-stand, leaning or carrying by a shoulder strap instead. Owners are famously fond of it anyway; the fold is fast once learned.

The folded dimensions of 52 × 44 × 18 cm come with a caveat we should state clearly: this is Stokke's published YOYO² figure. A specialist retailer states the YOYO³ frame and fold are unchanged, but Stokke has not republished the dimensions under the YOYO³ name. Either way, the 44 cm width exceeds the 40 cm template.

The pricing is unusually volatile. Stokke's own German site was showing €349 against a €469 RRP at the time of research. Its maximum child weight, seat dimensions, wheel size and EN 1888 status are not stated on any page we could reach.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification8.0

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies6.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback9.2

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.4

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is the fold two-handed when cheaper strollers manage one?

It is a design choice rather than an oversight — the strap-pull mechanism is what produces the very compact, very fast fold the YOYO is known for, and owners generally learn it quickly. But it is a real difference when you are holding a child. The Bugaboo Butterfly 2, Joolz Aer+ and Kinderkraft Nubi 2 all fold one-handed, and the Butterfly 2 also free-stands afterwards.
