Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The 622GW suits drivers who want a single, front-facing camera with a screen, a long feature list and clear published video modes. Nextbase states 4K at 30 fps, 1440p at 60 fps and 1080p at 120 fps, a 140° viewing angle, a six-layer f1.3 lens, digital image stabilisation, a 3-inch IPS touchscreen, 10 Hz GPS using GPS and GLONASS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. It adds what3words location, Emergency SOS crash notification and built-in Alexa.

What is missing matters. Nextbase does not name the image sensor, so the key metric of this ranking is "not published". The pages we read give no operating temperature and do not say whether the camera uses a battery or a supercapacitor. Coolblue lists 128 GB as the maximum microSD size, the lowest ceiling here alongside the 522GW. Nextbase's own page did not say whether Emergency SOS needs a subscription.

Owner feedback is the strongest point: 8.8/10 from 14 Coolblue reviews, with sharp 4K footage praised and storage filling quickly at 4K listed as a drawback. We found no independent lab result for this model that we could read. At €347 at Coolblue it is no longer cheap for a front-only camera; Nextbase's US shop showed it as sold out, so check stock before planning around it.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.8

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies5.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.6

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.0

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the Nextbase 622GW record the rear of the car?

Not on its own. The box contains only the front camera; Nextbase sells rear modules separately, and Coolblue lists the missing rear camera as a drawback.

Which image sensor does the 622GW use?

Nextbase does not name it on the product page we read, so we list it as not published. The published data are the video modes (4K30, 1440p60, 1080p120), the 140° angle and the f1.3 lens.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.
