Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The 522GW is the more affordable Nextbase for drivers who want a screen, GPS and app features but do not need 4K. Nextbase publishes 1440p at 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps, a 140° viewing angle, a six-layer f1.3 lens, a 3-inch IPS touchscreen, 10 Hz GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. A polarising filter is built in, which helps with windscreen glare, and Alexa voice control and Emergency SOS are listed.

The image sensor is not named, and the pages we read give no operating temperature or power-backup type. Coolblue lists a 128 GB microSD ceiling and a weight of 125 g.

With 34 Coolblue reviews averaging 8.0/10 this has the largest body of owner feedback in the ranking. Owners praise sharp footage; Coolblue's summary also records that parking mode sometimes triggers incorrectly, and lists the lack of 4K and of a rear camera as drawbacks. We found no readable independent test. At €242 it is good value if 1440p is enough; Nextbase's US shop showed it out of stock, so check availability.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.2

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies5.0

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.4

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.
