What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

On price-per-performance nothing else here comes close. At around €80 it undercuts the Continental by roughly €90 across a set of four, and its results justify serious consideration rather than being merely acceptable.

Auto Express placed it third in 205/55 R16 in 2026, its best result in this size. AUTO BILD 2024 ranked it sixth of twenty with grade 2.0 "gut", and specifically praised its "überragende Kilometerlaufleistung" — outstanding mileage, which matters more on a value tyre than on a premium one because it stretches the price advantage over the life of the set.

The ADAC / ÖAMTC / TCS 2024 result of 2.6 "befriedigend" looks middling until the sub-scores are read. Winter roads 2.1 and environment 2.0 were both strong — the environment score matched the Michelin Alpin 6 for best in the field. TCS recorded 68% snow and 64% dry.

The weakness is wet, and it is consistent across sources. ADAC's safety score of 2.8 was the joint weakest of the recommended group, TCS scored it 54% wet — the lowest wet figure of any recommended tyre — and German retailers reproduce ADAC's phrase about "slight weaknesses in handling on wet roads". In a mild European winter, wet roads are what you actually drive on most of the time. This is the trade-off you are accepting for the price.

It is also the noisiest tyre in the ranking at 72 dB. The noise class letter was not printed on the pages we could reach, so we have not stated one.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.6

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.4

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.3

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value9.5

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How serious is the wet weakness?

Serious enough that ADAC named it explicitly. TCS scored it 54% wet against 72% for the Continental. In practical terms that means longer wet braking distances and less predictable behaviour in wet cornering. For most European drivers, wet road surfaces account for far more winter kilometres than snow does — so this is not a theoretical concern. It remains a recommended tyre; it is simply the one that trades wet grip for price.

Is 72 dB noticeably louder?

Against the 69 dB of the Falken or Nokian, yes — 3 dB is a doubling of sound energy. In a modern car at motorway speed you will hear it as a slightly higher background hum rather than as an obvious problem. If cabin quietness matters to you, the Falken Eurowinter HS02 at 69 dB class A is the alternative at a similar price.

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.
