Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

ExpressVPN suits buyers who want a mainstream service with a long, public audit history. The 28-month Basic term was USD 83.72 (USD 2.99 a month), then USD 99.95 a year, with tax added at checkout — about EUR 74.58, EUR 2.66 a month and EUR 89.04 on renewal at the ECB rate of 2 October 2026. Up to 10 devices are allowed and the refund window is 30 days.

The Trust page lists KPMG's no-logs assessment of June 2025 (the third such audit) plus a stream of 2026 Cure53 audits of newer ExpressVPN products, the latest dated May 2026. Its TrustedServer design runs from RAM; this was audited by PwC in 2019 and Cure53 in 2022. The core library of its Lightway protocol is open source, and Lightway offers post-quantum protection. The transparency report for January–June 2026 records 137 government requests, including 3 warrants, with no data disclosed.

The caveats are cost and ownership. Renewal at USD 99.95 a year is one of the higher prices here. ExpressVPN is part of the Kape Group and operates from the British Virgin Islands, outside the EU. Trustpilot shows 4.4 from 29,245 reviews, with complaints mainly about sites that block VPN addresses and occasional drops.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.8

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.4

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.2

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value6.8

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.
