What this product is
Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.
This machine is the strongest evidence in the ranking that expensive drying technology is not what earns a good energy class. It reaches class A on 54 kWh per 100 cycles with nothing more exotic than a door that opens itself at the end of the cycle — the same class and the same figure as the Bosch Serie 8 that costs €125 more and adds zeolite on top.
KONSUMENT/VKI, the Austrian consumer organisation, made it joint test winner in the 60 cm fully integrated category on 30 April 2026, from a field of 19 machines, sharing the win with the Siemens iQ300 SN63EX22CE. Individual scores are behind a paywall, so we quote the placing rather than a number.
Equipment is complete for the money: the VarioSchublade cutlery drawer, VarioFlex basket system with foldable tine rows, eight programmes, automatic detergent dosing, AquaSensor turbidity sensing, Home Connect, and AquaStop backed by Bosch's water-damage guarantee for the life of the appliance — a contractual commitment rather than a marketing line. At 42 dB it is quiet, though still noise class B like almost everything else.
The honest trade-off against the Serie 4 below is €231 for two energy classes, three extra programmes, 2 dB less noise and automatic detergent dosing. On our running-cost arithmetic the class A machine saves roughly €9 per year, so the energy difference alone takes about 26 years to repay. Buy this for the equipment and the test result, not as an energy investment.
A note on the eco cycle: 4 hours 30 minutes, 35 minutes longer than the Serie 4. That is the price of the better class.
One caution about published grades. Two aggregator sites show a "gut 2.2" for this machine attributed to Stiftung Warentest, but test.de results are paywalled and we could not confirm the attribution. We have not used it in the scoring.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is it worth €231 more than the Bosch Serie 4?
Not on energy alone — the class A rating saves roughly €9 a year on our arithmetic, which takes decades to repay. It is worth it for the equipment: eight programmes instead of six, automatic detergent dosing, 2 dB less noise, and a test win from an independent consumer organisation. If budget is the constraint, the Serie 4 loses very little that affects results.
Why does this beat the Serie 8 on value?
Same energy class, same 54 kWh, same 42 dB, and the Serie 8 uses more water (9.5 vs 9.0 litres) with a longer eco cycle. What the extra €125 buys is zeolite drying on top of the auto-opening door, TimeLight floor projection, a touch panel and a Pro version of the cutlery drawer. Those are convenience and finish features, not performance ones.
