Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The NA221/00 is the entry ticket to a branded air fryer. Philips publishes 4.2 litres, 1,500 W, up to 200 °C, nine presets including keep-warm, 27.3 × 36.8 × 29.3 cm, 3.51 kg, a 0.8 m cord and a two-year guarantee. The basket is non-stick coated and dishwasher-safe.

OCU measured it at 1,000 g of frozen fries. That is enough for two portions, and the ratio of about 238 g per litre is in line with the much larger Ninja Double Stack, which suggests Philips' litre figure is not inflated. At 1,500 W it has the lowest rated power in the ranking.

Philips' marketing claims are typical of the category — up to 90% less fat than deep frying and 'up to 70% energy savings' compared with an oven — but no test protocol is published for either, so we treat them as unverified. There was no owner rating on the product page.

At €79.99 on Philips' shop (against a €129.99 recommended price) it is good value for a single person or a couple; larger households will outgrow it quickly.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.8

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies6.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback6.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value7.8

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is 4.2 litres enough for two?

OCU measured 1,000 g of frozen fries, which covers two generous portions in one batch.

Does it really save 70% energy?

Philips claims up to 70% compared with a conventional oven but publishes no test protocol, so the figure cannot be checked.

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
