Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The Essential 2 is a closed-link monitor from the Dutch brand Luvion, sold in its video range rather than its separate Wi-Fi range. The feature list is modern: a 4-inch colour screen, automatic night vision, remote pan and tilt, VOX mode, talk-back, a temperature sensor, expansion to four cameras and USB-C adapters for both units.

The problem is everything that is not on the page. Luvion gives no battery life for the parent unit, no battery capacity, no screen or camera resolution beyond the word 'HD', no radio technology and no statement on encryption; 'meets European standards' is the only compliance wording. The one hard number is a range of up to 400 metres, stated without conditions. Consumentenbond's 2026 test, as reported by Stiftung Warentest, found that video monitors often lost the link at under 40 metres, which shows how little an unconditional figure says.

Consumentenbond does list the Essential 2 as tested in both colours, so an independent result exists, but the score is for members only and Luvion does not cite it. The claim that the predecessor was the best-selling monitor in the Netherlands and Belgium is Luvion's own and comes without a source. The product page showed zero reviews. Luvion's price is €189, while Consumentenbond's price list showed the white version from €135.20. On features it competes with the Alecto DVM2043; on documentation it does not, and that is why it closes the ranking.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification5.5

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies6.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback5.5

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value6.3

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Luvion Essential 2 battery last?

Luvion does not publish a runtime or a battery capacity for the parent unit on the product page we opened. It mentions only an energy-saving VOX mode.

Has the Essential 2 been independently tested?

Consumentenbond lists the Essential 2 in white and black as tested, but the test score is visible to members only, so we cannot report it.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
