Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The best accuracy-per-euro in this category by a wide margin.

Fitbit rebuilt the optical heart-rate algorithm for this generation using machine learning and claims a 60% improvement in accuracy during vigorous activity — that is a manufacturer claim, but independent comparisons against a Polar H10 chest strap put the deviation at roughly 1%, which is the range you would accept from a research-grade device.

It carries a CE-marked ECG feature for atrial-fibrillation indication and an EDA sensor. And it does something almost nothing else at this price does: it pairs with a Bluetooth chest strap. When you want a measurement rather than an estimate — intervals, heavy weights, anything where the wrist moves — you can feed it real data.

Battery is quoted at up to 7 days, realistically 4–5 with the always-on display and GPS use. Built-in GPS is single-band, so it will drift in cities and under tree cover.

The honest limitations. Some Fitbit features sit behind Fitbit Premium, and the Daily Readiness Score is among them — you are buying a device with a subscription layer. The screen is small. And Fitbit's calorie estimate is subject to the same 27–93% error range as everything else here; the accuracy applies to heart rate, not to the number you probably look at most.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification9.0

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies8.6

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback8.4

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value9.6

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Charge 6 accurate enough for interval training?

For steady effort yes — around 1% off a chest strap. For intervals, wrist optical sensing lags the actual change in heart rate by several seconds on every device, this one included. Pair the chest strap it supports and the problem disappears.

Do I need Fitbit Premium?

Not for heart rate, steps, sleep duration or GPS. Daily Readiness Score and the deeper analytics are behind it. Decide on the free tier before you commit to a subscription.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
