What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

If you do not drill into masonry, this is the tool to buy, and the reason is weight. At 1.2 kg with the battery fitted — 0.83 kg bare — it is dramatically lighter than every combi drill in this ranking, several of which weigh over 2.2 kg. Overhead work, ceiling fixings and long screwdriving sessions are a different experience at that weight.

Heimwerker Praxis scored it 1.3 "sehr gut" in issue 04/2026, the highest independent grade any tool here received, and their praise was specifically about control rather than power: start-up behaviour, running smoothness and switch feel. Those are the properties that separate a pleasant drill from a frustrating one, and they never appear on a specification sheet.

The numbers are strong anyway. 78 Nm maximum torque from a brushless motor, a 13 mm metal quick-change keyless chuck, two gears running 0–500 and 0–1,950 rpm, 22 clutch stages plus drill, and 40 mm wood / 13 mm steel capacity. The QuickSnap system takes interchangeable heads, which is useful in tight corners.

Understand which Bosch platform this is. It runs on Bosch Home & Garden 18 V, part of the Power for ALL Alliance — the green range. This is not compatible with Bosch Professional blue batteries, and buyers confuse the two constantly. Green is the right choice for a homeowner; blue is for trade use and carries AMPShare cross-brand compatibility.

The obvious limitation is the absence of a hammer function. In most European housing, masonry and brick walls are common enough that a combi drill is the safer default — this tool cannot drill a wall plug hole in brick efficiently. Buy it if your work is wood, plasterboard, furniture and metal.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification8.6

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies9.2

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback9.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value9.0

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a hammer function?

Only if you drill into brick, concrete block or light concrete. If your fixings go into plasterboard, timber, chipboard or metal, a hammer function is dead weight. In much of European housing stock masonry walls are common, so a combi drill is the safer general recommendation — but if you know your walls, a drill-driver is lighter, shorter and has a more precise clutch.

Is the green Bosch battery the same as the blue one?

No, and this is the single most common Bosch purchasing mistake. Bosch runs two completely incompatible 18 V systems: green Home & Garden / Power for ALL for consumers, and blue Professional / AMPShare for trade. The batteries do not interchange in either direction. Decide which system you are entering before your second tool purchase.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
