What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

The Philips Series 8000 BHD839/10 suits users who want fine-grained heat control: the Geizhals listing shows seven temperature settings plus automatic temperature regulation, three speeds, a cold shot, a display, ionic function, a removable intake filter, a styling nozzle and a diffuser, with 1,400 W and a 2 m cable. The product title on Philips' site refers to 'ThermoShield Advanced', Philips' name for its heat-protection system.

We could not verify more than that. Philips' German product page opened but did not render its content for us, so all specifications here come from Geizhals. Neither source showed weight, airflow, air speed, motor type or noise, so the dryer cannot be placed on our key metric at all. That is the main reason for its low position, not any known fault.

Price is high for what is documented. The lowest offer on Geizhals was €182.43 at Galaxus, with Coolblue, Saturn and MediaMarkt at €186.90–187.99 and Philips' own shop at €203.99. Owner feedback on Geizhals is 4.6/5 but from only five ratings. Philips is among the brands tested by Stiftung Warentest (2022) and Consumentenbond (2025), but we could not see whether this model was included or how it scored.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification6.0

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies4.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback7.2

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value6.2

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.
