Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

This suits people who want pure vitamin C but are wary of the alcohol-and-fragrance bases common in the category. CeraVe's own page states 10% pure vitamin C, and its INCI list puts ascorbic acid second, followed by glycerin and dimethicone, with three ceramides (NP, AP, EOP), cholesterol, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate and tocopheryl acetate further down. No parfum appears on the manufacturer's list.

Ten percent is at the lower end of the 10–20% window the 2017 Al-Niaimi and Chiang review describes as optimal, and above the 8% threshold the same paper gives for biological significance. The base does include alcohol denat., in sixth place.

A data warning: the Notino.de listing we used for the price shows a different ingredient list, with sodium ascorbyl phosphate and niacinamide but no ascorbic acid. That is probably an earlier or different-market formula, but we cannot confirm which version a given retailer ships — check the INCI on the box. CeraVe publishes no pH and no clinical data with participant numbers for this serum. The 4.2/5 rating on Notino is based on six reviews.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification8.2

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies4.5

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback7.0

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value8.0

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.
