Review

What this product is

Written after the analysis, from the same sources the score is built on: the manufacturer's documentation, available studies and verified owner feedback.

An unusual entrant, and the reason it is here is that its protection regime is a third category most people have never considered.

The card is attached to a Trading 212 investment account, and money in it sits under investment-firm client-money rules and investor-compensation arrangements — not under the deposit guarantee scheme that covers N26 and bunq, and not under e-money safeguarding either. Investor compensation schemes protect against the firm failing to return client assets, typically to €20,000, and they work differently from deposit guarantees in both scope and limit. If you take nothing else from this entry, take this: three different protection regimes appear in this ranking, and "regulated" tells you nothing about which one you have.

The commercial offer is genuinely strong — competitive foreign-exchange handling, no monthly fee, and interest paid on uninvested cash, which no other card here matches.

The limitations are structural. Your travel money is inside an investment platform, which is a different mental model from a current account and a different customer-service experience when something goes wrong at a till in another country. Availability varies by country. And exchange and ATM terms are subject to change on a platform whose primary business is not payments.

Component scores

Where the score
comes from.

Four components, equal weight, each on a 0–10 scale and each resting on a named source. The overall score is their mean — the full procedure is in the methodology.

  1. Composition and specification7.2

Declared composition and specification: active ingredients and their concentrations, energy classes, standards, technical parameters — and what the manufacturer leaves unsaid.

  2. Evidence and studies7.4

Verification of the manufacturer's claims against outside sources: laboratory reports, industry testing, safety data sheets, certificates and regulatory decisions.

  3. Owner feedback7.6

Analysis of verified reviews written after extended use, together with recurring fault reports for the model or series.

  4. Cost and value9.2

Price set against what the product actually delivers, plus costs incurred later — consumables, energy, servicing, subscriptions — over the lifespan typical for the category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is investor compensation the same as deposit protection?

No. Deposit guarantee schemes under Directive 2014/49/EU cover deposits at a bank to €100,000. Investor compensation schemes cover an investment firm's failure to return client assets, typically to €20,000, and the circumstances they apply to are narrower. Different protection, different limit.

Principles

The manufacturer makes claims.
We check what the evidence says.

Every ranking follows the same protocol: an analysis of composition and specification, verification of claims against available studies, a review of verified owner feedback, and an assessment of price against what the product delivers.
